The Ballon D’Or™ awarded to L.Messi & A.Putellas

The Ballon d’Or France Football 2021 was awarded to Lionel Messi who won his seventh trophy, a historic record. The third women’s Ballon d’Or in history was awarded to Spain’s Alexia Putellas, a player of FC Barcelona, winner of the Champions League.

The Ballon d'Or ceremony saw Lionel Messi win the prestigious prize for a record seventh time with the best players in the world crowned at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris. The Copa America win in the summer and another year of scoring goals, it is simply ridiculous the consistency he is playing with. That, along with 41 goals for his country, Barcelona and PSG as well as 17 assists sees him go two clear of Ronaldo for Ballon d'Or wins.

Robert Lewandowski finished second in the voting with Jorginho third. Some brilliant words there from the Argentine to the Polish striker :

'Robert, you deserve your Ballon D'Or. Last year, everyone was in agreement to say that you were the big winner of this award.'

Fabio Cannavaro, presented the Kopa trophy, the first award of the evening to the midfielder of FC Barcelona Pedri, crowned best player under 21 years. Luis Suarez, a very close friend and ex-Barcelona team-mate of Messi, comes on to the stage to hand the trophy to the Argentine. A warm moment to close the 65th Ballon d'Or ceremony.
